My Least Favorite, Nasty Down Hill Climb

Theresa-Elliott-Biker-Beware.jpg

Day 23, the pass from Lel Acebo to Molinasecca

The “Mother Superior” song in my head was constantly interrupted by flies. I don’t remember them in the sound track so that should have been a warning. I tried to dial her back, because my brain is always calling her up, but the only alternative available was “The Ants Go Marching One By One.”

The glory of the morning and the Mother was trounced by 15km of unrelenting, downhill tyranny. The pass from Lel Acebo to Molinasecca is certainly up there on my list of least favorite, nasty down hill climbs. But on the bright side, I have regained my coveted 5 star goat status, lost in the mud fall the 2nd day of walking.

See photos with descriptions below, including some of the best photos to date of how crazy trail conditions can be, and a video of another afternoon storm trouncing our beer restaurant.

Theresa-Elliott-Shangra-La.jpg

Pretty sure we located the lost city of Shangra La, just to the left of center.

Wow, how did we end up in Eugene, Toto?

Bouncing around fog.

Some guy went blasting past us on a bike right before this trench appeared. This gully is at least four feet deep. We didn’t hear a crash or find him balled up on the side of the path, but sometime soon, in a nearby town, an unusual soprano will audition for the local choir.

Just ugh.

Felt I was on a set from West World here in Reign de Ambros.

Where else can you double park your tractor and leave it running while you pop into the bar? Ponferrada, Spain.

The friendly waitron continues to do his job of serving beer despite the rain storm that engulfs the street and portions of the restaurant.
