Roof of St Peter’s Basilica, end of the Via di Francesco

Via di Francesco, Italy

Spoleto to Rome

200km

The Via di Francesco starts in Florence, Italy, and concludes in Rome. It links sites in the life of St Francis, patron saint of animals, and passes through Assisi, his birth place and common starting point. This was my first camino or pilgrimage with my soon to be husband Sandy Brown, and he was working on a new guidebook for the route “ The Way of St Francis, from Florence to Assisi and Rome.” The amount of time I had to walk was just shy of what was needed to start in Assisi, so I joined Sandy, already in progress, in Spoleto.
