The Pyrenees, day 2

Half in Spain, half in France, fully hungry. The boarder between France and Spain is very casual.

Day 2, Orisson to Roncesvalles

Our second day crossing the Pyrenees started with fog and remained with us all day.

Wild horses roam these trails along with the humans. One such pack came suddenly through the fog, mostly adults, a few foals, and a very clear black alpha leading the way. I stepped off the trail. I had no desire to be surrounded by a heard. Sandy on the other hand, kept his course. Not surprising, the alpha made his way to Sandy. As I watched from the side, concerned how this would play out, it dawned on me. This is a great photo op! There was nothing else I could do. The die had been cast so lets make the best of it and hope it goes well!

I reached for my iPhone to get that once in a life time shot memorializing the moment these two met up. I dug out my phone, held it up and . . . It was powered off. Once in a life time shot, denied.

Reflecting later, neither of us remember exactly how the situation resolved. Sandy’s only memory was of thinking “wow, I should get a shot of this.”

See below for photos of the day.

Easy to navigate, level trails are also part of the hike.
