Cathedrals and Other Man Made Wonders
Via Francigena #20 of 20
Firenze, Italy
The David counts as a wonder. I would have added him to yesterday’s list had I known. I had not anticipated my reaction, but choked as I came around the corner. Is it his legendary fame? Is it his presence? I don’t know and it doesn’t matter, other than than to say he is not overrated. We leave after viewing as I really didn’t want to put anything else in my eyes.
Even though we visited and viewed other magnificent works of art, the other mind blower was scoring eggs and bacon for breakfast. Life validating Maslow again.
I will miss my husband Sandy Brown immensely as he stays on to do some back fill and then walk onto Rome. As much as he protects me, I protect him. So I worry a bit.
I am enjoying watching Sandy quickly let go of the pastoral role he carried for so long. As many of you know, in public service like the ministry, it is not an easy role and often a burden.
For fun I’m trying to teach him how to swear, and it’s baby steps. When I became the pastor’s wife, I always joked it did not come with a manual and that I’d likely write one. However, since I no longer have that role in a church, I think I’ll move on to a different book “How to Teach a Pastor to Swear.” So far he has master frickin’ and I am rather proud of him.
This is also a fine place to acknowledge his contribution to my posts. He is one of the funniest, goofiest humans I know, and besides some of his many quotable quotes, there is a synergy between us that is irreplaceable. He is also my extremely patient human spell-check because believe me, I am beyond the one that comes loaded on the phone.
I’m looking forward to seeing my closet. That’s going to be fun deciding which completely and obviously non Camino outfit I’m going to wear first. Also my cats and my daughter. And, my spectacular garden. For as much time as I spend in it, I have thought very little about it. I suspect it has a something to do with my very capable friend Martha who has been care taking the barn in our absence.
Thank you for reading my posts. I will be consolidating them, going back to my first Camino in 2014, into a new blog, name yet to be announced although the URL has been purchased.
See below for photos of magnificent cathedrals from both Siena and Firenze, and of course, David.
